In humid places like Florida, PETG, TPU and nylon absorb water fast. An airtight box, desiccant and an ESP32 humidity sensor keep your filament print-ready.

Mission steps

  1. Pick an airtight container

A cereal-style box with a gasket lid holds one or two spools.

  2. Add desiccant

Use rechargeable silica gel in a mesh bag or printed holder.

  3. Print the sensor enclosure

Print the vented ESP32 enclosure from the Vault and mount it inside the lid.

  4. Flash ESPHome

Add the BME280 to an ESPHome config (see the room sensor guide).

  5. Alert

Notify when humidity goes over 25–30%, the cue to recharge the desiccant.

Questions

How do I recharge silica gel?

Follow the manufacturer's directions — many indicating beads are dried in an oven at low temperature until they change color back.
