Debug Probe + OpenOCD

Step through Pico firmware line by line with breakpoints using the official Debug Probe over SWD.

What you use it for

  • Find crashes in C/C++ firmware
  • Flash without pressing BOOTSEL
  • UART serial console at the same time

Commands

Start OpenOCD for a Pico 2 (RP2350)
openocd -f interface/cmsis-dap.cfg -f target/rp2350.cfg -c "adapter speed 5000"
For an original Pico (RP2040)
openocd -f interface/cmsis-dap.cfg -f target/rp2040.cfg -c "adapter speed 5000"

Pro tips

  • The VS Code Pico extension can launch the debugger for you.
  • Connect GND, SWCLK and SWDIO; the probe's UART port works as a serial console.
